Afterimage Film Festival

Love of story wrapped into the package of film spreads much further than Cannes or Park City. That is why Afterimage Film Festival sought to make this accessible to the Chicagoland area and suburban community. The prompt was to create a brand identity and initial festival posters to draw buzz and elevate this event to being at a world-class level. There was an emphasis on the story of the film-goer, young and old, and their viewing experience – seeing more than what their expectations are on the surface level.

The goal with the logo was to create a simple, memorable mark that felt dynamic and had a depth of meaning. Inspiration was drawn from the actual function of an after-image and the visual noise tests that create optical illusions, revealing different colors or shapes than one would think were there once they looked long enough. Combining those visuals with the letter “A” formed the Afterimage chevron. This flexible mark established various animated and static graphic treatments to bring the festival brand to life.

Poster Designs
A poster was a perfect medium to highlight the “See More” theme. In all of the designs, the goal was to create layered visuals that engaged and drew viewers in with different elements revealed up-close than what was seen from a distance.
